Our Team

The founder, Gislene Lassan

Raised in South of France, Gislene "Gigi" Lassan moved to Los Angeles in 1978 where she taught French language in various schools. In 1989, she founded her own school: France Exchange. During 25 years, Gigi dedicated her life to teaching French and transmitted her passion to generations of students.  As an artist (Gigi paints and makes jewelry) she always had it in her heart to make the French classes a special time of fun and pleasure. With her wonderful French immersion summer day camp for children from 5 to 13, she received “the Family Choice Award” in 2003.

The executive director, Florence Farenc

Born and raised in South-West of France, Florence Farenc graduated from Toulouse Business School. She worked for many years in the fashion industry in Honk Hong, France and Belgium. She traveled all around the world to find the best quality garments for her customers. In 2001, she decided to devote more time to her daughters and went back to school. She graduated from the Education Nationale with a degree in Elementary School. She taught as a "Professeur des écoles" for seven years in the lovely city of Biarritz (Pays Basque). In 2009, she moved to Los Angeles and discovered the American teaching methods. She decided to keep the best of the two educational systems to design her own approach to teach French as a Second Language. She worked as a teacher for France Exchange School & Services for three years before becoming the Executive Director in 2014. Florence loves to share her passion for French culture with her students. She defines herself as a real "cinéphile" and fell in love with Los Angeles.  She is an avid reader and has a keen interest in all visual arts as well as traveling and discovering large cities.
